Granting Access to Your Shopify Store
These steps require that you be logged into your Shopify admin on a desktop computer
- Once you're logged into your store, select the Settings menu option shown along the left hand side. Then select the menu option Apps and Sales Channels.
- At the top of the Apps and sales channel screen, click on the Develop Apps button. This will allow you to create a custom app on your store which will eventually allow BrandSlice to connect to your store.
- On the next screen,
Depending on your version of Shopify you're using, you will either see this Create an App button,
so go ahead and then click on the Create an app button and go to step 4.
...or you will see this screen, so go ahead and click on the Allow custom app development button
Then click on the same button on the next screen as well.
Then. click on the Create an app button.
- Create a new app. Enter 'BrandSlice-Access' as the App name. Select any of the admins of your Shopify store as the App developer. BrandSlice does not require collaborator access to your store, but this dialog needs an email in order to get to the next step. Click on the Create app button.
- Navigate to the API credentials tab on this next window. Click on the Configure Admin API Access Scopes button in this screen.
- As shown in the example below, follow these instructions to grant the proper permissions for the BrandSlice feature you'll be using. Once done, click the Save button in the upper right. Now follow these instructions to grant the proper permissions.
Scopes to be granted to BrandSlice for use with Shopify Inventory Feeds Only
- Inventory - Grant read_inventory and write_inventory. This provides access to quantity and sales price for each product/variant item that will be advertised
- Inventory - Grant write_inventory. This allows inventory quantities to be updated.
- Locations - Grant read_locations. This provides the unique identifiers within your Shopify store for each location whether single or multi-location
- Products - Grant read_products. This provides access to product description, variant details, and quantities that get used for your inventory feeds and the Shopify Sync Product tool
- Products - Grant write_products. This allows the Shopify Sync Product tool to update product attributes including images, product descriptions, product titles and much more. If you're planning on using this tool now, this permission is required. If you think you may use this tool in the future, we would advise adding this permission now so its available when you need it.
- Once you press the Save button, look under the API Credentials tab/Access tokens section and click on the Install app button to complete the installation of the app you just configured.
Shopify will generate the Admin API access token for you to send back to BrandSlice. In this dialog, click on the blue Reveal token once link. When that token is shown, copy that value to the list mentioned in step 1.
